Supreme Masters: Nyingma Buddha Parents
The Prophecy of Nyenlong Buddha Parents to Rinpoche
The “Mirror of Prophecy,” bestowed upon Rinpoche by the renowned tertön (treasure revealer) Nyenlong Buddha Parents of the snowy land, records:
At the place of the lotus-covered mountain, the victorious one named Lotus
Will travel to the land of China on the fifth day of the Ox year.
When the auspicious conditions ripen, he will encounter this Dharma.
At the place of Dharma Chakra, a messenger will arrive.
Golden mountains will shine brightly, silver lands will be adorned with wish-fulfilling jewels.
Lightning will flash above, and demons will create obstacles.
To remove these obstacles, the blazing blue dakini
Will perform one hundred thousand tsok offerings and recite the Guru Rinpoche prayer
One hundred million times. Through such diligent recitation,
All wishes will be fulfilled. Keep this firmly in your heart.
Samaya
Also recorded in the “Lamp of Prophecy”:
At the place where the Yellow River flows slowly,
The only protector, the heart-son of Guru Rinpoche, named Shiliya,
Is also a hidden yogi.
From the snowy land to India and China,
At a certain time, the conditions will ripen, fulfilling his past vows.
When he performs the seven-posture Vajra dance,
There will be some slander, some praise, and much injustice.
Due to Guru Rinpoche’s blessings, his fame will resound like thunder,
Filling the ten directions.
This protector has a close karmic connection with me for many lifetimes.
The nine supreme Dharma teachings and the half-complete Dharma,
Especially the collection of teachings of the Blazing Blue Dakini,
If you can accept them,
You will attain longevity and perfect all endeavors,
Propagate the Dharma, benefit sentient beings,
And those who resist the currents of the degenerate age
Will all be reborn in Sukhavati (Pure Land).
The teachings of the parents and the terma teachings will flourish and be perfected.
Time and conditions should not be neglected.
According to the prophecy of the Dakini, this is given to your heart-son.
Samaya
The Prophecy of Nyenlong Buddha Parents to Rinpoche
Plain Language Translation of “Lamp of Prophecy”
The “Lamp of Prophecy” records: By the Yellow River, the heart-son of Guru Rinpoche appears as a hermit, his name is “Sun” (Nima—Rinpoche’s nickname). Traveling from the snowy land of Tibet, to India and China, one day his past vows and auspicious conditions will ripen, and he will perform the seven kinds of Vajra dances. At this time, some praised him, some slandered him, and some doubted him, but due to the great compassionate power of Guru Rinpoche, this did not affect him. His excellent reputation spread throughout the ten directions like a summer thunderstorm.
This protector has a special karmic connection with you in every lifetime. He is the master of the hidden treasures. If he can be entrusted with the “Nine Profound Teachings of Dzogchen,” the “Nine and a Half Complete Teachings of Subjugation,” and especially the “Blue Light Blazing Dakini” Dharma collection, and if he can accept them, he will enjoy longevity and good health, his Buddhist activities will flourish, and he will save sentient beings in the degenerate age and the declining Dharma. Those who have formed good or bad karmic connections with him will be reborn in the Pure Land. He will also prosper the Dharma lineage and the activities of his guru and parents, and the profound hidden treasure teachings will flourish increasingly. There is no time to delay, and the karmic conditions cannot be reversed. According to the prophecy of the Dakini, the Dharma teachings should be entrusted to him! Samaya!
This was written based on the prophecies received by Guru Rinpoche and the Dakini by the Nyingma Guru and his consort.
Brief Biography
Homage to the Guru Vajradhara!
With undivided pure faith, I pay homage to the Guru and the Three Jewels, who bestow benefit and happiness.
The supreme master of hidden treasures, the Guru and his consort, briefly explain the essence of the Dharma practice.
The contemporary Dzogchen master and great tertön, Urgyen Jigme Namkha Langpa (i.e., the Nyingma Guru), also known as Namdrol Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche, is the combined emanation of Guru Rinpoche’s mind essence and the activities of the tertön Urgyen Chenli Langpa, and the third incarnation of Yiqing Namdrol Jigme Wosel Rabgye Dorje.
The Dakini Tara Lamu Rinpoche (the Nyingma Guru’s consort) is the combined emanation of the mind essence of the Venerable Vajrayogini and Yeshe Tsogyal, and the Dakini Visakha (or translated as Shina Khandro, Shara Khandro) and the nun Tsapi.
These two venerable beings, countless eons ago, generated bodhicitta, practiced the bodhisattva path, perfected merit and wisdom, and attained perfect enlightenment. Solely for the purpose of liberating countless stubborn and suffering sentient beings, throughout many eons, they have continuously manifested various emanations according to the karmic conditions of sentient beings, like the moon reflected in water.
I. Brief Biography of the Nyingma Guru
According to the records in Guru Rinpoche’s hidden treasures:

His Holiness Urgyen Namkha Langpa Rinpoche, in the presence of the auspicious and majestic primordial protector, the Buddha Drum Sound King, was the great Brahmin Bodhigara;
before Buddha Shikhi, he was the Venerable Maha Bodhisattva;
before Buddha Vipashyin, he was the Venerable Devananda;
during the time of Buddha Kashyapa, he was the Venerable Chewo Gami Ao;
and before our teacher Shakyamuni Buddha, he was the Venerable Aniruddha, the foremost of the great Shravakas with divine sight.
Subsequently, he was reborn in India as the great accomplished master Mahakala;
in the land of Urgyen, he was known as Zhuchen Lawapa;
during the time of Guru Padmasambhava, he was the great Acharya Nuchin Namkhai Nyingpo;
during the time of King Gesar, he was Prince Yula Thokgyal of the Jiang Kingdom;
later, among the 108 great tertöns (treasure revealers), he was the great accomplished master Thangtong Gyalpo;
Afterwards, he successively manifested as the great Bodhisattvas and holy beings such as Rigdzin Göden (the Master with the Eagle Feather), Ari Panchen Pema Wangyal, Dundul Dorje, Lhaga Ase, Taranatha, Dedru Rowatse, Shepa Dorje, Natsok Rangdrol, Lekyi Dorje, etc. He either appeared sequentially or simultaneously manifested multiple emanations, extensively carrying out the work of propagating the Dharma and benefiting sentient beings.
The Venerable Urgyen Namkha Langpa Rinpoche is a true emanation explicitly prophesied by Guru Padmasambhava, the second Buddha of Urgyen, in many of his profound treasure teachings.
The “Prayer of Supplication – Great Compassion Hook” prophesies:
Emanation of the mind of Padmakara, the essence of all Buddhas,
Emanation of the speech of Yeshe Tsogyal, the holder of the great secret teachings,
Emanation of the body of the second Yogi Namkhai Nyingpo.
This clearly indicates that the Guru Rinpoche is the combined emanation of the mind-secret of Guru Padmasambhava, the speech-secret of Yeshe Tsogyal, and the body-secret of the great Acharya Namkhai Nyingpo. The prophecy of the great tertön Dakshang Dorje states:
The successor of Guru Rinpoche, the protector of sentient beings,
A manifestation born in the Year of the Monkey, bearing the name “Shou” (Longevity),
Will open the door to the deeply hidden treasury of space,
And guide all who connect with him to the Mountain of Merit.
The prophecy of the great tertön Pema Gawong Zangpo states:
A manifestation born in the Year of the Monkey in the south, in Nanning,
Will rekindle the hidden teachings and guide those with karmic connection to the Mountain of Merit.
In the prophecy, “Shou” refers to the Guru Rinpoche’s childhood name, “Sengshou”; “Nanning” refers to the great Acharya Namkhai Norbu; and “Year of the Monkey” refers to the Tibetan Wood Monkey Year, which is 1944 AD, the year of Guru Rinpoche’s birth.
The prophecy of the great tertön Urgyen Chenli Langpa (i.e., Apang Rinpoche) states:
A manifestation of Guru Rinpoche’s mind-essence, bearing the name “Gaga,”
Will protect and widely propagate my hidden teachings,
And increase the beneficial activities for sentient beings in India, Tibet, and China.
“Gaga” is a transliteration of the Sanskrit word for “space,” which is “Namkhai” in Tibetan, the name of Guru Rinpoche.
According to these prophecies, in 1944 AD, the auspicious Wood Monkey Year of the Tibetan calendar, Guru Rinpoche was born in the “Do” region (now within Seda County, Garze Prefecture) at “Wurisang Ngokachi Tang” (translated as “Secret Mantra Joyful Whirlpool”). His father was a descendant of the Brown Clan royal family, named Buchong Namlo, who deeply revered the Three Jewels and was a highly accomplished tantric yogi; his mother, Gesar Drogyal, was inherently virtuous, gentle, and serene, with unwavering faith, elegant and dignified, free from all feminine faults.
When Guru Rinpoche was born, two springs of white and red water suddenly gushed forth from the yin and yang sides of the mountain in his hometown, naturally forming an auspicious whirlpool; the house was filled with fragrant incense, rainbows surrounded the outside, and flowers bloomed. Accompanied by all these auspicious omens, and through the ultimate realization of right view and right understanding from his past lives, Rinpoche clearly recited the Manjushri mantra three times, astonishing those present and inspiring in them a profound and rare reverence for Guru Rinpoche. His Holiness the Guru Rinpoche was exceptionally intelligent and wise from a young age, possessing innate virtues such as strong renunciation, great compassion, and pure perception. At the age of seven, he began reciting scriptures with his uncle, Sangtse. Without formal instruction, he was able to recite fluently and without any difficulty, simply through his innate wisdom. He once copied a complete version of the Great Liberation Sutra in a single day, his handwriting fluid and elegant, inspiring great admiration. He mastered many subjects such as grammar, medicine, and crafts without a teacher, displaying the inconceivable liberated state of a saint from a young age.
At the age of eight, he was recognized by two great spiritual masters, Yiqing Bilu Mengjiu Yeshe Dorje and Dzongsar Khyentse Jamyang Chökyi Lodrö, as the reincarnation of the Third Yiqing Namkha Jinme Ösal Rabpel Dorje Rinpoche, and was enthroned at Karma Monastery, becoming the head of that lineage. In the same year, while performing the 500,000 preliminary practices, he received a treasure box containing a lotus flower formed from “Tseji Treasure” with a sword at its center. From then on, His Holiness the Guru Rinpoche manifested a profound karmic connection with hidden treasures, successively unearthing numerous rare treasures such as treasure boxes, ritual implements, and medicines.
His Holiness the Guru Rinpoche studied under many great spiritual masters, including Yiqing Bilu, Great Khenpo Jinme Sengge, Rigdzin Khachö Dorje, Khenpo Jinme Deqing, Yiqing Kunsang Nyima, and Yiqing Wenzhe Danbi Gyaltsen. He studied profound teachings such as the Longsal Preliminary Practices, the Commentary on the Mindfulness of the True Dharma, the Treatise on the Three Vows, and the Treatise on the Treasury of the Dharma Realm, and received complete empowerments, transmissions, and supplementary teachings of the Dedü and Longsal lineages.
After the great treasure master Rigdzin Nyima bestowed all his hidden teachings upon His Holiness the Guru Rinpoche, he praised him as a supreme Dharma master and a true and authentic treasure master. Furthermore, many great masters, including Qing Pandita Chökyi Nyima, Dodrup Rigzin Gyaltsen Dorje, Shichong Khandro Kunsang Chökyi Drolma, Yuthok Tulku Karma Sangye, Dongga Aedun Gyatso, Tulku Khyenrab Wangchuk, Chötrul Lodrö Wangpo, and others, successively offered auspicious objects and sacred relics representing body, speech, and mind, repeatedly praising the Guru Rinpoche as the true successor of Guru Padmasambhava, and prophesying his vast Dharma propagation activities in this life.
The empowerments, transmissions, and pith instructions of the profound Dharma lineage of the Great Secret Vajrayana filled the Guru Rinpoche’s heart. The realms of the senses automatically manifested as three mandala circles, and within the chakras, peaceful and wrathful deities appeared as numerous as sesame seeds. The meaning of all sutras and tantras naturally flowed from the ocean of true nature in his own mind.
From the age of seventeen, the Guru Rinpoche never ceased performing the monthly tsok offerings on the tenth and twenty-fifth days of the lunar calendar, even when the circumstances were so harsh that he only had a single bowl of food. He diligently practiced in many secluded places and sacred sites, reciting the heart mantras of the Three Roots deities thirteen hundred million times.
In the early 1960s, due to the collective karma of sentient beings in the degenerate age, famine and hardship plagued various regions of China and Tibet, leaving people without food. All the incarnate masters also manifested signs of suffering in accordance with the karma of sentient beings, and the Guru Rinpoche was similarly afflicted by hardship.
On the twenty-fifth day of the lunar calendar, an auspicious day for the tsok offering of all dakinis, Rinpoche personally witnessed the Buddha Mother Yeshe Tsogyal. The Buddha Mother lovingly comforted him, saying, “Although you appear to be suffering this hardship temporarily, I have never left you!” Saying this, she relieved his hunger and thirst with nectar-like milk. Because of this, Rinpoche attained the realization of the union of great bliss and emptiness, and all conceptual thoughts naturally dissolved into the essence of the wisdom of the Dharma realm. While imprisoned, the three principal Dharma protectors of the vast ocean of Dharma, each holding banners and weapons, resided around the Guru Rinpoche, protecting him like close friends. This scene was witnessed firsthand by those in the same prison cell.
During the collectivization period, Guru Rinpoche, with great compassion, manifested various miraculous Dharma practices. At that time, each team could only receive one or two packages of butter, but Guru Rinpoche, through the blessing of the Akashagarbha mantra, enabled over a hundred households to have enough butter for a year. A monk named Yinhua received two catties of butter from Rinpoche and found that it lasted him for six months.
One summer, livestock in the Nenlong Township area where Guru Rinpoche resided were infected with a contagious disease, and many animals were struggling on the verge of death. Upon learning of this, Guru Rinpoche was deeply saddened and said to his attendant, Gela Nima, “Seeing these cattle and sheep suffering so much, I might even develop ‘mouth sores’.”
The next day, Rinpoche indeed fell ill, his mouth covered with sores, constantly oozing saliva and blood. His attendant, Gela Nima, was terrified and deeply saddened, but Guru Rinpoche comforted him, saying, “My illness is nothing; it is only to purify the karmic obstacles of these cattle and sheep.” After saying this, he instructed his attendant to dry the blood in a basin and make it into powder, and after performing a powerful blessing, he instructed him to quickly take the blood powder to the pasture. After Gela Nima did as Rinpoche instructed, the medicine proved effective, saving tens of thousands of yaks from the brink of death and restoring them to health.
There are many more examples of such genuine self-other exchange practices, which can be found in Guru Rinpoche’s “Extensive Biography.”
II. A Brief Biography of Nenlong Buddha Mother—Dakini Rinpoche Dorje Lhamo
Dakini Rinpoche Dorje Lhamo, in countless eons ago, had already accumulated immeasurable merit and wisdom, and had attained Buddhahood in the nature of the Great Bliss Samantabhadri Buddha Mother. However, due to compassion for all sentient beings, she continuously manifested in various forms until the cycle of samsara is completely emptied, bringing benefit and happiness to sentient beings.
The lineage of the Dakini Rinpoche’s reincarnations is roughly as follows: countless eons ago, she had already developed an irreversible bodhicitta before the great Bodhisattva Dharma throne; before our teacher Shakyamuni Buddha, she was reborn as the goddess of the Ganges; in India, she was Karma Devi; in Nepal, she was Kalasiddhi; in Tibet, she was Yeshe Tsogyal, who attained the power of unfailing retention; in Southern Mon region, she was Dedru Rowa Tsel; in the Copper Mountain, she was Machig Iwa Tso; in Kham region, she was the venerable Dakini Vajra; during the time of King Gesar, she was Nyichong Yuye Drolma, etc., all appearing in the world in the form of illusory manifestations.
The present life of Dakini Rinpoche is the combined manifestation of Sekhar Pema Dakini, a modern female tertön (treasure revealer) from Kham region and a true emanation of Yeshe Tsogyal, and Tsabi Chökyi Trichen Dakgi, a true emanation of the great Mahamudra master Naropa.
Sekhar Pema Dakini once personally told Dakini Rinpoche’s mother, “In my next life, I will be born into your family!” and gave her a red protection knot as a token; at the same time, the great accomplished master Tsabi Chökyi Trichen from Dokar Monastery in Golog Prefecture, Qinghai Province, also told Dakini Rinpoche’s mother, “In the year of the Earth Tiger, I will be born into your home!” and gave her a bell, drum, scriptures, etc., as tokens. Master Apang also prophesied: “A great being, a combined emanation of Vajrayogini and Tsangpa Rinpoche, will be born into our family, capable of accomplishing vast beneficial deeds for sentient beings!”
Furthermore, the terma prophecy of Dudjom Rinpoche Jigdrel Yeshe Dorje states:
An emanation of the two deities, Vajrayogini and Tsogyal,
A Dakini from Dokham holding the name Sekhar,
Her emanation, born from mantra, is Tara,
Whose activities spread throughout China, Tibet, and India,
Leading all who connect with her to the realm of the Dakinis.
Master Pema Garwang also prophesied:
An emanation of the victorious Vajrayogini, named Tara,
Temporarily closing the doors to the lower realms for all who connect with her.
The Heart Essence lineage masters, Dorje Khamsong Serong Kyipa Dorje Rinpoche and the emanation terma master Do-nga Tenpe Nyima, also had similar prophecies, which are omitted here for brevity.
According to these prophecies, in 1938, the Earth Tiger year of the Tibetan calendar, accompanied by numerous auspicious signs, the Dakini Rinpoche was born in the Yumulong region of Poyul in Dokham (now within Banma County, Qinghai Province). Her father was the renowned modern-day great tertön, an emanation of Vajrapani, Urgyen Chenli Langpa Rinpoche (i.e., Master Apang); her mother was the Dakini master Donghong Tenzin Drolma.
When Dakini Rinpoche was young, she traveled with her parents to Lhasa on pilgrimage. Upon meeting Dudjom Rinpoche Jigdrel Yeshe Dorje, the Rinpoche joyfully identified her, saying, “This child is a true emanation of Yeshe Tsogyal—the reincarnation of Sekhar Pema Dakini.” He held her in his arms and offered many prayers before the sacred image of Shakyamuni Buddha in the Jokhang Temple for her future accomplishment of vast Dharma and beneficial deeds for sentient beings.
When Dakini Rinpoche began to speak, she said to Alok Gewa, a close disciple of Tsangpa Rinpoche who had come to pay his respects, “I need my regularly recited scriptures and bell and vajra.” Such rare words left no doubt in anyone’s mind that Dakini Rinpoche was indeed an emanation of Tsangpa Rinpoche, eliminating the need for any further investigation or verification. For individual beings whose karmic conditions were ripe, Khyungtrul Rinpoche manifested various miraculous powers to subdue them. Once, a boulder the size of a tent rolled down the mountain, threatening the lives of the people below. Khyungtrul Rinpoche used a mudra to stop it from rolling, averting a disaster.
During the same period, Khyungtrul Rinpoche single-handedly carried eighteen yak saddles to a distant valley and, in a single day, chopped down eighteen large bundles of firewood, exceeding the total work of six or seven strong men in the same amount of time. When building a livestock enclosure, he lifted a huge stone that eighteen men could not move, leaving his handprint on it.
On one occasion, when Sharayangdrak Rinpoche was in prison, Khyungtrul Rinpoche appeared in the sky, bestowed the precious “Enzrani” treasure, and said, “I have come specifically to visit you and Wenpo Rinpoche. You will be released from prison soon, and we will be able to meet.” After saying this, he instantly disappeared, and the prediction came true. He also manifested the miraculous power of throwing a porcelain bowl that did not break upon hitting a stone; he demonstrated the miraculous power of traveling at the speed of wind, keeping pace with a galloping horse; and he perceived sentient beings falling into lower realms and used his miraculous powers to rescue and liberate them… and so on.
His extraordinary merits are too numerous to describe; for details, please see the “Extensive Biography.”
III. The Circumstances of the Buddha-Parents Jointly Turning the Wheel of Dharma
The great tertön Rigdzin Dakshang Dorje prophesied:
The successor of Guru Rinpoche, the fearless protector of sentient beings,
If he meets the qualified Tara at the age of thirty-four,
The profound hidden treasures of the Akashagarbha will be opened,
Connecting with and guiding beings in the wondrous mountain of virtue.
The above prophecy clearly indicates that the Guru Rinpoche would meet his eternal consort, the dakini Tara Lamu, at the age of thirty-four, and if they could jointly turn the wheel of Dharma, they would accomplish great things.
In the sixteenth year of the Tibetan calendar, the Earth Horse year, Guru Rinpoche was 34 years old. The great treasure revealer, Drukpa Tenpe Nyima Rinpoche, prophesied: “In the past, at Samye, you and Yeshe Tsogyal made a vow together to uphold the profound lineage of hidden treasures for all future generations. Now the time is ripe. May you swiftly establish auspicious conditions and unveil these precious teachings that will benefit sentient beings in this degenerate age!”
Meanwhile, Tara Lhamo Rinpoche, an emanation of Yeshe Tsogyal, the mother of all Buddhas, and a Dakini revered by all tertön masters without exception, also received the same prophecy from her guru, deity, and Dakinis.
The tertön master Do-nga Tenpe Nyima Rinpoche also prophesied to the Dakini Rinpoche:
The embodiment of all victorious ones,
The supreme ornament of the snowy land, the venerable Ari,
The Heruka, the practitioner of esoteric yoga,
Makes supplication before the Lotus-born King.
May you never be separated from me in all lifetimes, please accept me.
In all lifetimes, this is my guru.
The above prophecy clearly indicates that the Dakini Rinpoche will work together with Guru Rinpoche and the emanation of Ari Panchen, Guru Urgyen Namkha Langpa, to turn the wheel of Dharma and benefit sentient beings.
Furthermore, the tertön master Urgyen Chenli Langpa prophesied in the “Catalogue of the Twenty-Four Sacred Places”:
The illusory dance of Guru Rinpoche and his consort,
Abe Tara, the name of skillful means and wisdom,
If they can jointly awaken their former vows,
The new and old terma teachings will spread throughout the ten directions,
And all who connect with them will be guided to the mountain of virtue.
In the prophecy, “Abe” refers to the Guru Rinpoche; “Tara” refers to the Dakini Rinpoche. As mentioned above, after the Guru Rinpoche and the Dakini Rinpoche clearly recalled their past vows and exchanged the catalogs of their respective revealed treasures and prophecies regarding their future joint propagation of the Dharma, and in accordance with the prophecies and signs of the Second Buddha Padmasambhava, their gurus, and deities, as well as the entreaties of great Vidyadharas such as Wangda Paljor Rinpoche, Sherab Yangdrol Rinpoche, Gyalse Pema Tshewang Rinpoche, and Do-nga Tenpe Nyima Rinpoche, the Dakini Rinpoche became the wisdom consort of the Guru Rinpoche and took him as her destined and three-kindness root guru, bringing joy and satisfaction to the Guru Rinpoche’s body, speech, and mind. Through the profound interdependence of the three secrets, they revealed the secret seal of Padmasambhava’s aspirations, causing the teachings of the old and new treasure traditions, such as those of their father Urgyen Chenli Langpa, to spread throughout the ten directions, naturally opening the door to the profound treasure trove that saves sentient beings in this degenerate age.
From then on, the Guru and Dakini Rinpoches, the manifestors of the unique and profound essence of the practical Dharma teachings, shone like the sun and moon in the virtuous sky of fortunate beings, jointly turning the wheel of Dharma in a state of non-duality of skillful means and wisdom, thus beginning the great work of benefiting more fortunate sentient beings!
IV. The Three Root Dharma Teachings of the Nyingma Guru and Dakini Rinpoches
The three root Dharma teachings include:
- Guru Section:
The Urgyen Padmasambhava Heart Essence Empowerment, including empowerments of Padmasambhava’s five consorts, eight manifestations, twenty-five heart disciples, etc.
According to the prophecy given by Padmasambhava to the Guru and Dakini Rinpoches, among the nine heart disciples of this Dharma teaching, the central one is named “Pema,” born in the year of the Ox, etc., referring to Rigdzin Chenpo Rinpoche (named Pema Wangchen). It is said that widely propagating this Dharma teaching can prevent or postpone many world disasters, etc.
- Deity Section:
Includes numerous Dharma teachings, mainly the four empowerments of Vajrakilaya and the Torma empowerment, etc. 3. Dakini Section:
This section includes numerous Dakini practices, primarily the empowerment of the Blazing Blue Light Dakini (including the four empowerments, the five male and female deities, the male and female deities of the twenty-four sacred places, the four gatekeeper goddesses, etc.).
V. The Auspicious Dharma Connection Between the Nyingma Buddha Parents and the Precious Guru
The prophecy given by Guru Rinpoche mentioned that among the eight supreme Dharma masters manifested by Guru Rinpoche, the most important one is named “Pema”… etc. Rinpoche is the principal Dharma holder of this practice.
During their lifetime, the Buddha Parents repeatedly bestowed Dharma tokens upon Rinpoche, such as:
- Handwritten manuscripts by the Buddha Parents, along with their handprints as proof.
- The Vajra bell and dorje used by the great tertön Apang (the Buddha Mother’s father) during their long retreats, which were given to Rinpoche.
- A crystal representing the mind, used during the practice of the Vajrakilaya Dharma, was given to Rinpoche… etc.
The Precious Guru’s Recollection of His Gurus, the Nyingma Buddha Parents
There are many practices of the Blazing Blue Light Dakini. The practice I am transmitting is a terma (hidden treasure) practice from my gurus, the Nyingma Buddha Parents. My gurus lived at Nyingma Monastery in Seda County, Sichuan Province. The Nyingma Guru was a reincarnation of Namkhai Norbu, and the Nyingma Buddha Mother was the daughter of the great tertön Apang.
The great tertön Apang had only one daughter, who was also a reincarnation of Yeshe Tsogyal. They unearthed many termas, one of which is the Blazing Blue Light Dakini.
This Blazing Blue Light Dakini practice has a strong connection with me. When my two gurus were alive, they instructed me to propagate and teach this practice. Today, because of the invitation of fortunate individuals, I am transmitting this practice. This is to repay the kindness of my gurus and is a Dharma offering.
I have transmitted the Blazing Blue Light Dakini practice three times. I am very happy that I can transmit this practice during my lifetime, because I must fulfill the instructions of my gurus. During my guru’s lifetime, I wrote the Vajra Dance and Vajra Song of the Blazing Blue Light Buddha Mother, as well as an explanation of Dzogchen related to it. This Blazing Blue Light Buddha Mother practice includes a Dzogchen teaching, which has two explanations. One was written by Khenpo Thubten Wangchuk Rinpoche (a very famous Dzogchen master of recent times), and the second explanation was written by me. Both explanations are printed in the collected works of my guru, Nyelong Rinpoche.
The reason I wrote this explanation was because my guru and his consort, especially his consort before her passing, instructed me to do so. They gave me a crystal that they had retrieved from a treasure trove, and told me that many different forms could manifest within this crystal. They asked me to write an explanation of this Dzogchen teaching, saying that it would benefit many sentient beings. Because of this, I later wrote this explanation of Dzogchen, and I also completed a retreat related to it.
There are three levels of qualifications for a guru: the highest level is someone who has realized emptiness; the middle level is someone who has personally seen the deity; and the lowest level is someone who has completed a retreat. I consider myself to be at the lowest level. Besides this, I previously requested my guru and his consort to grant blessings to me and my disciples when I transmit this teaching. They gave me their handprints, which are now hanging here, and said that whenever I transmit the teaching, displaying these handprints would be equivalent to them being personally present to give blessings. Therefore, when you receive the empowerment, please pray diligently to Guru Rinpoche and his consort, and to my guru and his consort. The guru is above you; you will surely receive blessings.
