Auspicious Goddess

Auspicious Goddess

The Sanskrit name of the Goddess of Good Fortune is Mahakali, a Buddhist guardian deity. She was originally the daughter of Lord Shiva. When the Buddha was in deep meditation at Bodhgaya and was about to attain the state of perfect enlightenment, all the evil demons were displeased and wanted to use their magic power to disturb the Buddha’s enlightenment. The Buddha subdued all the demons with his great power, and at that time the Buddha also subdued Mahakali. From that time on, Mahakali made a vow in front of the Buddha to protect the Buddha’s teachings and became the most outstanding female guardian deity. Her ultimate essence is the same as that of the Prajnaparamita Buddha Mother, but in order to benefit all sentient beings, she manifested her wrathful appearance from the Dharma Realm. In terms of the conventional truth, Mahakali is the Buddha Mother of all Mahakala (Mahakala), and is sometimes also called the “Lord of the Desire Realm”.

It is written in the Hevajra Tantra that “Auspicious Goddess is one of the most important Dharma protectors in the Hevajra Mandala.” Therefore, she will continuously bless and protect those who do good deeds, support and spread the Dharma, and have deep faith in cause and effect, so that believers can be free from illness and other sufferings. And for those who commit evil deeds, she will also become an arbitrator and punish them according to the karma. Auspicious Goddess is not only a Dharma protector, but also a wish-fulfilling deity who can fulfill the worldly and extraordinary good wishes of sentient beings. She is also a “demon destroyer” who can destroy all evil spirits. This image is the ritual written by the first ancestor of Gathagata, Gathabad, who saw the main deity of Goddess in the pure state. It also became the earliest Auspicious Goddess method in Tibet and became a treasure for major sects. Many eminent monks and great virtues in later generations also wrote various different rituals of Goddess based on this method, which is really extraordinary!
