The Inheritance and Teachings of Dzogchen

Medicine Buddha is the leader of the Eastern Pure Land of Lapis Lazuli. Together with Sakyamuni Buddha and Amitabha Buddha, they are called “Three Treasure Buddhas” or “Three Buddhas of the Three Worlds”. In Buddhism, the Eastern Medicine Buddha and the Western Amitabha Buddha are recognized as two parallel methods to solve the life and death problems of the people. The Medicine Buddha statue holds a medicine vessel (also known as the priceless pearl) in his left hand, makes the three-world seal with his right hand, wears a cassock, sits cross-legged on a lotus platform, and under the platform are twelve divine generals. These twelve divine generals vow to protect the Medicine Buddha Dharma, pass on the Medicine Buddha Dharma to various places, and protect and uphold the name of Medicine Buddha in various places. According to the scriptures, Medicine Buddha made twelve great vows (also known as the twelve upper vows) when he was practicing the Bodhisattva path countless kalpas ago. Each vow is to fulfill the wishes of sentient beings, relieve the suffering of sentient beings, and cure the diseases of sentient beings. After attaining Buddhahood, he always practiced his great wish. People generally called him “Medicine Buddha who eliminates disasters and prolongs life” or “Blue Lapis Lazuli Light Tathagata Medicine Buddha”.
