The fourth guru of the second Rinchen Tsewang Norbu was named Qiangqiu Chokyi Wangpo. In terms of status, he was the leader of the Suman Kagyu, the fourth Jaiwo Rinpoche, and also a very important root guru of the 12th Karmapa and the 8th Shamarpa. He was a successor of the Kagyu sect at that time. Many teachings of the Kagyu sect were passed down through him, especially the Mahamudra method. The hat worn by Rinchen Tsewang Norbu in his portrait was the hat that Rinchen Tsewang Norbu wore when he first met Jaiwo Rinpoche. However, the corner of the hat was reversed and turned blue, so he passed it on to Rinchen Tsewang Norbu in this way. After Jaiwo Rinpoche passed away, Rinchen Tsewang Norbu placed the hat in the Jaiwo Columbarium and did not pass it down. Later, Rinchen Tsewang Norbu used this hat as a prototype to make the hat in the current portrait. It has many meanings, which are mentioned in the complete works:

First, there are six colors of hats.
The respective meanings of each color are: 1. White: represents the unsullied Dharmakaya – never tainted by negligence; 2. Blue: Represents the body of Ren Yun – as if the sky is full of five kinds of perfection, with all the decorations you want; 3. Red: represents the embodiment of great compassion – although it is free from greed, it still does not forget sentient beings, uses various skillful conveniences to benefit sentient beings, and has incredible causes; 4. Dark purple: It represents the convergence of the heart – just like the blood of life, only the person who wears this hat can hold the inheritance of fate; 5. Gold: Represents the teachings of the Guru – just as the smelted pure gold has been cleared, the sutra and tantric teachings with complete merits will live for a long time; 6. Orange: Represents great happiness – the temporary bliss of being free and the ultimate bliss of being free of omission for all sentient beings.

Second, the overall meaning of these six colors is
1. External representatives: Guide the six sentient beings so that all sentient beings will not fall into the bad and evil paths, and will enter the path of liberation; 2. Inner representative: With the six degrees of ten thousand elements, it quickly tends to the Mahayana tunnel, and even the reincarnation is not unprecedented, and it has always been beneficial and sentient; 3. Secret Representative: Purify the Six Realms, use the mantra of the birth circle stage to obtain the eight merits and strange supernatural powers of purifying the Six Realms, and ascend to the Buddha Land of Double Fortune; 4. Extremely dense representation: The six wisdoms do not dwell in silence because they truly illuminate the root of all samsara nirvana, that is, they are born and attain the dharmakaya of defilement.

Third, the top of the hat is divided into five parts, with five meanings
1. The outer represents the five major types, 2. The inner represents the five parts, 3. The secret represents the five empty lines, 4. The extreme density represents the five veins of the Dharma realm, 5. The purple seams of true righteousness represent the web of the veins.

Fourth, the bottom of the hat forms a circle, which also represents five meanings.
1. The appearance can do everything you want, 2. The inner appearance is proficient in the Sutra and Esoteric Dharma, 3. The three precepts of the secret surface are far away from decay, 4. The extremely dense Dharma source between the eyebrows represents the salvation of all sentient beings who are in disorder; 5. True righteousness represents the integration of all laws of victory and righteousness in a unique point.

Fifth, the Iron Mountain on the hat has six meanings
That is, the original hat horn is pulled over, and at the place of the forehead, the two pieces are enclosed into an outer ring, It has six meanings: 1. The treasure of the outward almsgiving, 2. The inner precept of the iron fence mountain, 3. The armor of the secret surface of forbearance, 4. The extreme density represents the wings of diligence, 5. The most dense represents the fortress of meditation, 6. The source of the former method of true righteousnessIt is also the sword of wisdom that destroys the cause and nirvana.

Sixth, the lotus petals on the front of the hat also have five meanings
1. The outward appearance is far away from all faults, 2. The inner surface of the Lord Padmasambhava, 3. The secret surface of the vast compassion, 4. The extreme density represents the unsullied wisdom, 5. The true righteousness represents the mud of the mind that is not stained with the two obstacles.

In addition, Rigzin Tsewang Norbu also vowed
“Those who wear this hat and take the above vows will flourish Buddhism and uphold the teachings. All their wishes will be fulfilled, especially the work of Guru Rinpoche and the Karmapa. The dangerous cliffs in the outside world will be filled, and sentient beings in the inside will benefit and be happy. Sinners will feel remorse, and the evil thoughts of cruelty will be extinguished. The sins of believers will be cleansed, and the three elements of heaven, demons and humans will be subdued. Disease, hunger, war and chaos will be stopped. Auspicious wealth will be complete, and obstacles and bad karma will be turned into help. The root lineage teacher will bless them, and the deities and gods will grant accomplishments. Warriors and dakinis will gather like clouds, and male and female protectors will accomplish their work. Everything will be complete and auspicious. Plant good roots in this life, and enter the path of Bodhi in the next life. They will become me in every life. The disciples they have converted will not be far away. Guru Rinpoche’s Akasagarbha mind realm has the cause and condition of non-differentiated enlightenment, and auspicious signs will increase day and night. The above-mentioned wishes will be fulfilled as predicted by the Buddha.” In short, this hat has many origins. Rinchen Tsewang Norbu wrote a special explanation for it, which also includes many aspects of how to make this hat. However, there is no time to explain them in detail. You just need to know its meaning.
